Why rent a campervan in A Coruña?
A Coruña is one of the best gateways to Galicia for a campervan trip: an airport in the city, Santiago's an hour away, and an Atlantic coast of cliffs, rías and almost empty beaches. You pick up the camper and within an hour you are by the sea, in the forest or on the Camino.
- Rías Altas at 1 hour: Betanzos, the Mariñas, Ferrol and the Fragas do Eume, with beaches, rías and fishing villages.
- Costa da Morte at 1-1.5 hours: Carballo, Malpica, Camariñas, Muxía and Cape Fisterra, one of Galicia's wildest coasts.
- Santiago de Compostela at 1 hour: the end of the Camino and a base to explore inland Galicia.
- Rías Baixas at 2 hours: Pontevedra, the Cíes and the Atlantic Islands, with beaches and seafood.
Recommended campervan routes from A Coruña
Costa da Morte (3-4 days)
Head to Carballo and follow Malpica, Camariñas and Muxía to Fisterra. Lighthouses, cliffs and long beaches. It is an exposed coast: bring warm clothes and check the wind and swell forecast.
Rías Altas and Ferrol (3-4 days)
East via Betanzos, Pontedeume and the Fragas do Eume to Ferrol and Cedeira. Fishing villages, Atlantic forest and the beaches of Doniños and Pantín. Good overnight areas outside July and August.
Camino de Santiago and Finisterre (3-5 days)
Combine Santiago de Compostela with Fisterra and Muxía. A cultural and coastal route, perfect for late summer or autumn.
Rías Baixas and the Cíes (4-5 days)
Head down to Pontevedra, the Vigo estuary and the Cíes Islands (book the boat ahead). Warmer than the north and busier in summer.

Frequently asked questions
Can I pick up the camper at the airport?
Yes. Several companies deliver to A Coruña (Alvedro) and Santiago de Compostela airports, with supplements from about €20 to €120 depending on the company and the airport. Others arrange a transfer from their base. Check the cost when booking.
Can I sleep overnight in A Coruña?
There are motorhome areas in the city and along much of the coast, as well as campsites. Free overnight parking is regulated and depends on each municipality. Always check the local rules where you plan to stop.
What driving licence do I need to rent a camper?
A category B licence is enough. Almost all companies ask for 2 years of driving experience and a minimum age of 25; check the exact requirement before booking.
Can I travel with my pet?
Many A Coruña companies accept pets, some at no supplement (with a weight limit in some cases) and others with prior consent and a cleaning charge. Confirm when booking.
What is the best time to travel?
June to September is the best time for weather, but it can rain in Galicia in any month: bring warm clothes. In July and August prices rise and minimum stays are 5 to 7 days.
Can I travel to Portugal?
Many companies allow it with prior notice, and northern Portugal is about 2 hours away. Some limit travel to Spain and Portugal. Always ask before you go.
