Campervan rental in Mallorca

Complete guide: tips, companies and recommendations for your next adventure

Why rent a campervan in Mallorca?

Mallorca is Spain's most popular campervan destination — and for good reason. In barely 100 km from north to south, the island packs turquoise-water coves, mountain villages perched in the UNESCO-listed Serra de Tramuntana, almond-blossom fields and some of the best food on the Mediterranean. A campervan is the most flexible way to see all of it at your own pace.

  • Access to coves that buses can't reach: some of the island's best coves are hard to access or impractical in a large car. A van lets you arrive before the crowds and leave whenever you like.
  • The Serra de Tramuntana with no timetables: a UNESCO World Heritage landscape and one of the most spectacular mountain ranges in Europe. Explore Valldemossa, Deià and Sóller without depending on coach or taxi schedules.
  • Lower total cost than hotel plus hire car: for couples or families, a van with a bed included often works out cheaper than combining separate accommodation and a rental car, especially in mid-season.
  • Total itinerary flexibility: Mallorca has very different microclimates across the island. If the wind picks up in the north, move to the south coast in under an hour — no lost deposits, no penalties.

Recommended campervan routes in Mallorca

North route: Tramuntana and the northeast coves (5–7 days)

Start in Palma and drive north along the Ma-10 through Valldemossa, Deià and Sóller. Continue along the north coast to Cap de Formentor, then down to Alcúdia and the Bay of Pollença. From there, explore the northeast coves: Cala Mesquida, Cala Agulla and Cala Torta — all with crystal-clear water and manageable crowds if you arrive early. Recommended overnight stops: the Sóller motorhome area, the Alcúdia area, and the parking near Artà.

East route: the Levant coast coves (3–4 days)

The east coast concentrates some of the island's most photogenic coves: Cala Millor, Cala d'Or, Cala Santanyí and the spectacular Cala Mondragó, protected within a natural park. This route is quieter than the north and especially good in May, June and September, when the sea is already warm but the crowds are smaller.

South route: Palma, Cap de ses Salines and the interior (3–4 days)

From Palma, head south towards Campos, Santanyí and Cap de ses Salines — the island's southernmost point with views across to Cabrera. On the way back, cut through Llucmajor and the interior: cereal fields, windmills and villages like Randa and Algaida. Far less touristy and perfect for discovering authentic Mallorca.

Indicative prices for campervan rental in Mallorca

  • Basic campervanned van (2 people): €80–110/day low season · €130–160/day high season (July–August)
  • Mid-size campervan with bathroom (2–3 people): €110–140/day low season · €160–200/day high season
  • Large campervan or motorhome (4–6 people): €150–210/day low season · €220–300/day high season

If you were considering bringing your own campervan from mainland Spain, remember to factor in the ferry (Dénia, Barcelona or Valencia to Palma): €200–700+ return depending on season. Renting locally eliminates that cost — and lets you fly in instead.

Frequently asked questions

Can I sleep overnight at Mallorca's coves?

Mallorca regulations prohibit overnight stays at most natural coves and beaches. There are designated motorhome areas across the island, both municipal and private. The Consell de Mallorca website publishes an updated map of permitted areas. In general, parking in a public area without a no-overnight-stop sign is legal, but the situation varies by municipality — always check locally.

Can I drive anywhere on the island with a large campervan?

The Serra de Tramuntana has some very narrow, hairpin-bend roads (especially the Ma-10 between Estellencs and Banyalbufar). A motorhome over 6 metres can be challenging here. Standard-size campervanned vans (5–6 metres) have no issues. Local rental companies know the restrictions well and can advise on the most suitable vehicle.

Is it worth renting in Mallorca rather than bringing my own campervan?

If your campervan is on the mainland, the ferry can cost €200–700+ return depending on the season, plus travel time. Renting on the island lets you fly in and pick up the van on arrival — much better value for shorter trips of 5–7 days.

What insurance level is recommended for driving in Mallorca?

Local operators typically include basic insurance, with an option to reduce the excess via a daily supplement. For driving in the Tramuntana, where guardrails are common on the tightest bends, it is worth paying for the minimum excess option (or zero excess if available). The additional cost is usually €15–25/day.

When is the best time to visit Mallorca by campervan?

May, June and the second half of September offer the best balance of weather, price and tranquillity. July and August are the most expensive and crowded months. October and November offer minimum prices but north-facing coves can be battered by the Tramontane wind.

Can I use the rural tracks to reach remote coves?

Yes, as long as the vehicle does not exceed posted weight limits (some tracks have limits of 3,500 kg or less). Standard campervanned vans are within those limits. Always confirm with the rental company that the insurance covers unpaved roads before heading off-track.

Vanyou's advice

Gumara Camper Mallorca focuses on a single type of vehicle, the Ford Transit Custom, with very good verified ratings on rental platforms. Unlimited mileage within the island is a clear plus for those who want to move around without restrictions. Keep in mind that pets require prior authorisation and not all units allow them, so confirm this before booking if you're travelling with a pet. A good option if you're looking for simplicity: one well-equipped model rather than a wide catalogue to choose from.

Vanyou's advice

Mallorca Camper Hire has one of the most varied catalogues on the island, combining campervans, high-volume models and motorhomes such as the Giottivan or the Benimar. Their fully comprehensive insurance with 24-hour roadside assistance is reassuring, although the excess varies by model (€700 on the Giottivan 60T, confirm for the rest). Note that this company also operates under the names Camper Mallorca and Autocaravanas Palma de Mallorca, sharing the same customer service line, so don't be surprised if you see ads under those names. A good option if you want to compare between several vehicle types within the same provider.

Vanyou's advice

Caracol and Friends stands out from the standard catalogue with a fleet that mixes modern, mid-size and vintage models, plus a van geared towards events, which is unusual among Mallorca companies. Their personalised service with local recommendations and the available add-ons (bike rack, kayak, surfboards, baby seat) fit well with those looking for a more tailored experience rather than a generic fleet. Since they're based in Sant Llorenç des Cardassar, in the east of the island, factor in the travel time if you're flying into Palma. Price is on request, so confirm the exact rate depending on model and dates before deciding.

Vanyou does not manage this booking directly. Confirm availability and conditions with the company.

Vanyou's advice

Mallorca Campervan Experience bets on recent vehicles (2021–2026) such as the Giottivan, the Giottiline Siena or the Roller Team Kronos, which shows in the general condition of the vehicle compared with older fleets. Their flexible cancellation policy, with a 100% refund if you cancel more than 30 days ahead, is a plus if your trip isn't fully locked in yet. The deposit varies by vehicle type (€700 for campervan, €900 for motorhome), so confirm it for the model you choose. With capacity for up to 7 seats on some models, it's worth considering for family or group travel, though it's worth clarifying that part of the fleet leans closer to motorhome than to compact campervan.
