Campervan rental in Barcelona

Complete guide: tips, companies and recommendations for your next adventure

Why rent a campervan in Barcelona?

Barcelona is one of the best starting points in Spain for a campervan trip: within a few hours you can go from the Mediterranean to the Pyrenees, from the Costa Brava to the Ebro Delta, without flights or connections. You load up the van and go whenever you're ready.

  • Costa Brava at 1–2 hours: coves, fishing villages and the Cap de Creus Natural Park, with coastal routes and overnight areas for every taste.
  • Catalan Pyrenees at 2–3 hours: Cadí-Moixeró, the Cerdanya and the Vall de Boí, with hiking, high-mountain lakes and snow in winter.
  • Montserrat and the Penedès: under an hour from the city, ideal for a weekend escape with wineries, the monastery and trails.
  • Ebro Delta and Terres de l'Ebre at 2–3 hours: rice fields, almost empty beaches and birdwatching, a landscape very different from the northern coast.

Recommended campervan routes from Barcelona

Costa Brava and Empordà (3–4 days)

Head up the AP-7 or the Maresme coast to Girona and explore Begur, Calella de Palafrugell, Cadaqués and Cap de Creus. Beaches, charming villages and well-equipped motorhome areas combine well. Outside July and August traffic is moderate and finding a spot is easier.

Pyrenees: Cerdanya and Alt Urgell (3–5 days)

Enter through the Cadí tunnel into the Cerdanya and continue to Puigcerdà, La Seu d'Urgell and the Val d'Aran. There are hiking routes for every level and designated areas for overnight stays. In winter, check road conditions and carry snow chains.

Penedès, Montserrat and the Ebro Delta (3–4 days)

Start in Montserrat, head down through the Penedès vineyards and finish in the Ebro Delta. A relaxed route with good prices at overnight areas and plenty of local produce.

Indicative prices for campervan rental in Barcelona

  • Low season: from about €70–100/day for the most compact campers, up to €125 for those that include everything in the rate.
  • Mid season: between €115 and €140/day.
  • High season and August: between €130 and €180/day, with peaks above €200/day in August.

These are starting prices published by the local companies in this guide (October 2026). Always compare what each rate includes: mileage, insurance, service fees, bedding and pet supplements vary a lot between companies. Deposits range from €300 to €990 and most require 3–7 minimum nights in high season.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I pick up the camper if I rent in Barcelona?

Most local companies are based in the metropolitan area (Cerdanyola, Sentmenat, Pallejà, Sant Andreu de la Barca) or the Maresme, 20 to 40 minutes from the city. Some offer pick-up at El Prat airport or home delivery, usually for an extra fee.

Can I sleep overnight in Barcelona city?

Overnight stays on public roads inside the city are heavily restricted. The usual approach is to use motorhome areas or campsites in the metropolitan area and along the coast. Always check the current municipal rules where you plan to stop.

What driving licence do I need to rent a camper?

A category B licence is enough for most campervans. Almost all companies ask for between 1 and 5 years of driving experience and a minimum age of 23 to 26; check the exact requirement before booking.

Can I travel with my pet?

It depends on the company. Several of those in this guide accept pets with a daily supplement or a cleaning fee (between €10 and €50). Confirm when booking.

Can I drive a camper into Barcelona?

The metropolitan area has a low-emission zone. Before entering with a rented vehicle, ask the company which environmental label it carries and whether it can drive without restrictions.

Is it better to rent in high or low season?

Spring and autumn offer the best balance of weather, price and availability. In July and August prices rise sharply and small fleets sell out months ahead, so book early.
