Why rent a campervan in Granada?
Granada is a very good base for a campervan or motorhome trip in eastern Andalusia: the Alhambra and the old town, Sierra Nevada with the highest peaks of the Iberian Peninsula, the white villages of the Alpujarras and the sea on the Costa Tropical, all within about an hour and a half. The rental companies in this guide are based in the province, in Granada itself, Loja, Salar and Monachil, close to the A-92 and the A-44 motorways.
- Sierra Nevada at 30-45 minutes: the Pradollano ski resort, high mountain trails and viewpoints, with access to the highest areas regulated by the national park.
- Alpujarras at 45-90 minutes: Lanjarón, Pampaneira, Bubión and Capileira, white villages on mountain slopes with winding roads.
- Costa Tropical at about 1 hour: Salobreña, Almuñécar and La Herradura, with a mild climate almost all year.
- Guadix and the Geopark at about 1 hour: the cave dwellings of Guadix, the badlands of Gorafe and the Baza area, to the north-east.
Recommended campervan routes from Granada
Sierra Nevada and the Alpujarras (3-4 days)
Go up to Sierra Nevada and cross to the Alpujarras by Lanjarón and the Poqueira ravine. The roads are narrow and winding, so a compact camper is easier than a large motorhome. Access by private vehicle to the highest areas of Sierra Nevada is regulated, so check the restrictions before you go.
Costa Tropical (2-3 days)
Drive down to Salobreña, Almuñécar and La Herradura and follow the coast. It is a good route for spring and autumn, and beaches and campsites fill up in July and August.
Guadix, Gorafe and the Altiplano (2-3 days)
A route to the north-east through Guadix, with its cave houses, to the desert landscapes of Gorafe and the Baza area. It is quiet, with few people, and very hot in summer.
Granada and its surroundings (1-2 days)
The Alhambra needs advance tickets, so book well ahead in high season. The centre of Granada has a low-emission zone and restricted access: find out about the rules for your vehicle, park outside the centre and use public transport to get in.
Indicative prices for campervan rental in Granada
- Low season: from about €90-115/day.
- Mid season: between €110 and €130/day.
- High season (July and August): between €130 and €155/day, depending on the model.
These are starting prices published by the companies in this guide (October 2026). Most of the local offer in Granada is made up of motorhomes (coachbuilt and low-profile models) and only some companies rent small camper vans, so rates are usually per vehicle. Some companies do not publish their rates and ask you to enquire. Compare what each rate includes: mileage, insurance excess, deposit, bed linen and delivery are often charged separately, and many ask for a minimum of 3 days or more.
Frequently asked questions
Can I pick up the camper at Granada airport or at the station?
The airport (Federico García Lorca) is about 15 kilometres from the city. Some companies in this guide deliver to the airport or to the high-speed train station (usually with a supplement), and others ask you to collect the vehicle at their base. Check this when you book.
Can I drive a camper into the centre of Granada?
The centre has a low-emission zone and limited access. The usual advice is to park outside the centre, in a car park or a motorhome area, and reach the Alhambra and the old town on foot or by public transport.
What is the weather like?
Granada has hot summers, with temperatures of up to 40 °C, and cold winters, with snow in Sierra Nevada. Spring and autumn are the best seasons for the whole region; in summer, look for air conditioning and head for the coast or the mountains.
Can I sleep overnight in a camper?
There are motorhome areas and campsites in the province. Free overnight parking is regulated by each municipality and is not allowed in protected areas such as Sierra Nevada National Park. Check the local rules wherever you plan to stop.
What driving licence do I need?
A category B licence is enough. Most companies ask for 2 or 3 years of driving experience and a minimum age of 25; check the exact requirement before booking.
Can I travel with my pet?
Some companies accept pets, with or without a supplement, and others do not. Confirm it when you book.
